I thought it would be a good idea to encourage some participation on this blog from my wonderful readers. I figured one way to do this would be to ask what you folks do for a living. I’ll start:
I’m currently employed full-time for a large IT Services company and therefore what I’m doing today may be entirely different from what I’m doing on the same day next month. Right now, I’m currently assigned to a project at a major automotive company. I help manage the VPN connectivity to all of the North American dealerships. It’s not a very exciting gig as the network itself is managed by a large ISP, but you’d be surprised (or you may not be) as to how often we need to make sure they do their job right. There are a little over 1000 VPN connections, all done through Cisco routers (1841s at the spokes and 7206s in the core) and we provide redundancy through a second data center, just in case the primary data center succumbs to violent acts of nature or something.
Seeing as the network is mainly managed by the ISP, the ability to get my hands dirty has been very minimal. It’s been pretty ideal for the time being though, as the lighter workload has enabled me to spend a good amount of downtime studying for my CCIE and putting together articles for the blog.
So…with that said, what do you do for a living?
