MyNetflix

February 12th, 2008 neteng

I’m busy working away on the next MPLS article, but I came across this last night and wanted to share. Very cool for Netflix subscribers with a Vista PC running Media Center. You can stream the Watch Now videos to your Xbox-360 and watch them on your television instead of creating temporary tunnel vision from staring at your laptop screen too long!

CCIE Job Hunting Tips

January 15th, 2008 neteng

Emmanuel Conde has written a great article for the CCIE looking to take advantage of his/her new certification. I’m pretty happy with my current position, but this is advice that I will definitely take heed of should I return to the job market. Here’s a tip from the piece that I never would have thought of:

How do you handle job boards? You can use these anonymously. Don’t be afraid of taking your resume and putting it on Monster, Dice, HotJobs, CareerBuilder or BradReese.com. If you are trying to remain anonymous, make sure to change the properties of your word document so your name is removed. I use this all of the time to see who posted their resume on a job board and most times the anonymous posting has the name of the document creator in the document properties.

Those Microsoft documents can be sneaky! I recommend reading the rest of the article.

Friday Morning Fun - 12/28/2007

December 28th, 2007 neteng

Here we are, the final FMF of the 2007. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got everything they asked for. I brought in a pretty penny from gift cards to some of my favorite places, so I’m stoked! Other than eating too much and spending time with the family, my waking hours are occupied with understanding BGP suppress-maps and mutual-route-redistribution loops as my CCIE lab quickly approaches. I have labs scheduled for the whole weekend, so I will be busy. In the meantime, here’s some distraction for you all:

Have a great weekend folks and I will more than likely speak to you again just before 2008!

Thank you folks for being patient as new material has been sparse during this holiday season. With the added stress of my upcoming CCIE lab, I haven’t had much time for anything. Let’s kick off the weekend right though, with some good links:

You’ll see one more post from me on Monday before Christmas. Have a great weekend everyone!

Monday Morning Networking - 12/17/2007

December 17th, 2007 neteng

Whew, what a weekend. I worked through an Internetwork Expert mock lab exam on Saturday. Highly recommended and until Jan1, 2008, a normally $249 exam will only cost you $99. Hard to beat that deal. Sunday was spent with me realizing my pants are getting a little tighter and taking a trip to the gym. Enough of that…onto the news:

Have a pleasant Monday everyone!

Internetwork Expert - Catalyst QoS Session

December 5th, 2007 neteng

Sorry folks, not much time today (or probably tomorrow - dentist appointment) for an in-depth article. Instead, I figured that I’d post a link to an awesome webinar that was put together by the good folks at Internetwork Expert. This ought to provide some good material for you to digest on the way the Catalyst 3550/3560 switches deal with QoS:

101 Best Web Freebies

November 27th, 2007 neteng

While I’m putting more lab material together, I wanted to keep the ball rolling on this blog. I was sent an excellent link today, put together by BusinessWeek:

101 Best Web Freebies

There are some of the obvious tools in there: Skype, Ubuntu, etc.

But I also found some gems that folks might not know about:

  • Pandora Recovery - File recovery
  • Libra - Book and Media organizer
  • Mint.com - Financial Managment site (I highly recommend this..been using it for 3 months and love it. Like Quicken, but MUCH simpler and web-based).

That’s just a few of the links…Check it out for yourself.
